Learning Channel understands that Education is the foundation stone underpinning socio-economic development in South Africa. Improving the standard of education and matric results is key to moving people out of poverty and equipping them with skills to participate in the economy.

We believe that education has the power to uplift communities and create successful graduates that will become economic and social contributors to their communities. Educating our youth is a national responsibility – shared by Government, Corporates, Schools, Teachers and individuals.

Learning Channel forms strong partnerships with all these stakeholders in a bid to aim for educational excellence.

We offer an education solution that works, promising learner and teacher development! There are numerous reasons why the use of our learning material results in improved teacher and learner performance:

1. By an experienced teacher, in a classroom setting, as additional resource material.
2. As a lesson guide to inexperienced or admin-overloaded teachers.
3. As an additional teacher in a large classroom setting, where the teacher can work with one group, while another follows a lesson on DVD.

Historically, the Learning Channel has delivered curriculum-based lessons in the core subjects to GET and FET learners and their facilitators through its live weekday broadcasts, education supplements in almost all South Africa’s major newspapers and its website, www.learn.co.za.

Learning Channel’s audio-visual, e-Learning material on DVD has been developed specifically for South African learners by experienced educators and in close collaboration with the Department of Education. We offer a comprehensive range of Grades 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 courses that cover all the Learning Outcomes, Assessment Standards, knowledge, key concepts and skills as reflected in the National Curriculum Statement. Our learning material covers the entire curriculum and is presented in lesson format by qualified educators. Accompanying Workbooks provide lesson guidelines and summaries, as well as invaluable revision activities.

Learning Channel’s product offerings include the following:

Complete series – This series is available for Grades 7 to 12 and consists of a number of DVDs and an Activity Book for each subject, for each Grade. Teachers and learners will find this series very useful both in the classroom and at home, while preparing for lessons, tests and examinations. These comprehensive programmes cover all the knowledge, key concepts and skills as stated in the National Curriculum Statement and endorsed by the National Department of Basic Education.

Exam Walkthru – On each DVD, a highly qualified Grade 12 teacher of the particular subject will “walk the viewer thru” a sample exam paper clearly demonstrating, step-by-step, the methodology required and the best way to achieve the correct answers. An Afrikaans derivative of this series, Eksamen Vastrap, is also available.

Fundamentals – This product is designed to assist learners and teachers with understanding or teaching core concepts in key subjects in the FET phase and can also be used by tertiary students to bridge the gap between prior knowledge and the course being studied. This highly visual product includes video clips, animations and a range of visual material that will help viewers master the particular concepts in an informative and stimulating way

Foundation Phase Literacy Series – Read with us! In line with the Department of Basic Education’s national focus to address the poor literacy levels amongst the South African youth, Learning Channel has developed a unique Literacy Programme. Learning Channel recognizes that literacy, along with numeracy, is the most essential and basic skill that each child should learn at school and we have devised a Literacy Programme which is fun, interactive and comprehensive.
This unique reading scheme is fully CAPS compliant and aims to teach and develop reading and literacy skills. The context of all the components in this scheme is local and provides the opportunity for young readers to identify with the content presented. Read with us! consists of a DVD, 4 Readers, a Playbook and a Literacy Guide for each grade from Grade R to Grade 3.
